Hello all...I have a question regarding the condition of the barrel on my new Yugo M-59 SKS. The rifle itself looks great, nice looking reddish wood. It was completely covered in cosmo. Once I got it all nice and pretty lookinf I noticed that the barrel has what looks like a "frosted" looking surface in the groves between the lands (or whatever they are called). It is slightly rough to the touch with a toothpick and it could be pitting but I have never seen this before. Has anyone ever seen this condition? Is the barrel still OK? I have not shot it yet. As said before the rest of the rifle looks great. Thanks, MEDIC 0372 |

Ikor, word is, Yugo SKSs are not chrome lined bores. Medic, it could be a bit frosted from fouling or from cosmoline. Run a few patches through it. My M59 surprisingly didn't have much in the bore. A couple patches and it was they were coming out (relatively) clean. The bore isn't very shiny, but doesn't look too bad either. It is fairly accurate with Wolf HP. I'd just run some patches and a brush a few times. Clean it like you would any other rifle, and then take it to the range and see how she does. |
