For the throat erosion 1-3 is considered good for a shooter.  But the military would still acceptable anything up to a 5 on the TE gauge.  Anything over 5 was considered unacceptable.  For the muzzle there are some gauges out there but the easiest thing is take a GI M2 Ball round and place it in the muzzle and see how much of the bullet sticks out from the neck.  If the neck of the round touches the muzzle it is worn out.  The more of the bullet you see the better.  Hope that helps.

Thanks that really helps out.

Now I have a new question.

Does any body know where I can research a serial number for a M1 online?
