I am in need of a gunsafe. Are there any particular brands you can recommend? There is a Cannon and Liberty safe dealer local. Are these good safes? Looking for good fire protection also in the safe. Are there any makes or models to stay away from? Electric locks...ect. Thanks for the help..... |

i Have a Remington safe that i added an electronic lock to. it's a good safe. the lock is easier to work so i am much more likely to keep it locked. Before I would lock the day lock and leave the tumbler unlocked. I know bad. The fire lining is 5/8” fire resistant sheetrock. That seems to be industry standard. So if you can use a box cutter you can upgrade your safe for a few bucks. Bad thing. It’s got internal hinges so it only opens 90 Deg. The problem comes in when you have to put a gun in right next to the hinge. The boor can scratch the gun or push it into the others so you loose a space. Get one 50% bigger than you need and one that has multiple shelves. Mine is half long gun and the other half is pistol, jewelry and paperwork. It’s huge piece of crap in any room so I got the nice paint job and the wife can put a plant or something on it. Don’t think you can put a big one inside a closet. They can stop bullets so you may want to think about putting it some place where it can act as cover. Like during a home invasion. So I say go electronic lock, external hinge, fancy paint job, |

What's your budget? Can you spend $2500 on a safe? Do you need 40 gun capacity? We need a *little* more info here, to provide realistic advice. I bought a $300 Sentry from Wally World that I can cram 10 AR/AK/FAL rifles, 5 pistols, and some ammo in. It's done what I needed it to for the last 2 years. I'm about to buy another one. If I had unlimited cash, I'd get something bigger and better, but I don't...plus the shipping on some of those things is outrageous. |

I am looking for something under $1000. I have about 15 long guns and quite a few pistols. I also have a dueling pistol set from the early 1700's that insurance money could not replace. The grand is really more than I can afford but I do want good protection. There is a Cannon and Liberty safe dealer here local that I can save money on the shipping charges. I just want to know what maker would give me the most for my money? I am also unfamiliar with how a lot of the locking devices operate. Electric...ect. What works best for you? Thanks Ken... |

I have a Browning and really like it. The Liberty safes I looked at seemed pretty good too. Something to keep in mind is that when a manufacturer says, "Holds xx long guns" you should take that with a grain of salt. My answer is, "Sure, if my rifles were all Marlin 60s!" In the real world, rifles have scopes, carry handles, pistol grips, etc. If you have an older house/apartment or you plan to put it in an upstairs location, don't forget to make sure your floor can handle it too. That's a usually a bigger problem with fish tanks and not a factor for the average gun safe, but it's just something to think about. |

I think I'm going to buy one of these. Made by Granite Security. I was looking at the Centurion safe by Liberty. The Winchester safe has heavier steel walls. 10 gauge as opposed to 12. Plus it's slightly larger. |
I bought one of these. I like it, especially for the price. My only criticism is that the holes in the bottom that allow you to bolt the safe down only allow for bolts of 3/8" diameter and when I was anchoring it to the concrete, I broke the front bolt and it is only secured by the 2 rear bolts which makes it possible to rock the safe and break the rear bolts. I would prefer 1/2" capability to allow for heavier duty anchors. Other than that, great safe. I feel much, much better now that I have one. I no longer have as much trepidation about leaving the house now. I highly recommend purchasing a decent safe. |
