What is the best way to store spare parts (barrels and such), if you were to store in an un-enviromentally controled area?

Hey!

For short or long term storage...I would suggest Cosmoline. That stuff will prevent rust and corrosion for quite a while. The only problem is you will have to heat it to be able to apply it evenly throughout the part.

Thanks!  I need to store for about 7 months.

An oil bath and a vacuum sealer should do it.  Put one of those dessicant packs in there too.

Get a kitchen vacuum sealer gadget for your wife.

Just do it out of the blue.  "Honey, here's a gizmo that will let us save money!!"

In the meantime, use it to seal up lots of small to middlin' sized stuff.   Lightly oil the parts first, put in waxed paper, and then into the vac-seal bags.(No need to mention this aspect!)
For barrels, I'd use wheel bearing grease and wrap and tape-up in plastic.
