Anyone else see this article in Shooting Times?  Looks remotely interesting, but at 5.50 to 6.00 a box of 50, it still seems too expensive.

The article claimed that it was cheaper than "match" grade .22 ammo, which is true, but I have found that "match" ammo doesn't always shoot the best in my .22s.

Still, it is intersting.  More energy than a .22lr, and a lot less drop!  Could be cool.

Who here thinks they might buy a gun chambered for it?

I just saw a different article on it.

Immediatly my mind flashed to the two used 10/22's at the pawn shop. Buy one or both cheap and stick a new barrel on it.

Might have to do that.

Articles in both Guns & Ammo & Shooting Times this month on the .17 Mach 2.  Interesting reading, but I'm not ready to jump on the bandwagon just yet.

It IS very interesting how they managed to keep it hush-hush & coordinated such a HUGE new product roll-out (loadings, various new firearms, etc.)

If I was interested in a new rimfire I would be very intersted in the .17 Mach 2.  But as I'm not interested in another rimfire I'm going to keep my money.  My .22 Marlin Model 60 does everything I need it to do for me.  But I think the 17 Mach 2 is a real neat idea and I hope it works out well for them, and they make lots of $$$$ with it!

Excellent idea!  I think I'll keep a look out for another 10/22.  Didn't the article say something about having to adjust the springs or change them out for semi-autos?  Only problem I can see with your idea.  Someone is bound to make 10/22 barrels in .17mac2 rather quickly.

You know, I don't know. I didn't really read the article. Just glanced through it the other day and thought it said the new .17 would fit in guns built for the .22 LongRifle.

Guess I'll have to move the mag to the throne room for more serious contemplation.

For some reason this actually interests me.  When someone comes out with a carbon/SS barrel in .17M2 I will have to pick one up for my 10/22.

Am am very sure that the 17 barrels only fit the 10/22 mag guns.  Not the lr.

But maybe they have come out with a new conversion.

The Guns&Ammo article said Ruger was going to start building 10/22M's already barreled for the .17 Hornady Mag. If the .17m2 takes off, and it sounds like it will, Ruger will start building .17cal 10/22's. And the aftermarket will beat them too it, I'm sure.

Nope.  Both articles say it will fit any action designed for the .22LR - that's the whole point of the Mach 2.  The .17HMR can be fit in .22WMRF actions - the Mach 2 is shorter to fit in .22LR actions.

You can get barrels chambered in .17 mach 2 from Green Mountain Barrel Company.

As stated they round will work in pretty much every gun designed to take a .22LR. I know of a converted Rem 597 that was used to kill a few ground squirrels.
