I remember seeing that you have to have at leat X amount of inches for a rifle to remain legal.

How few inches can a rifle be and still be legal?

What's the Minimum Over All Length?

Not sure if it varies by state or not but where I'm at it is:

16" min barrel- anything less is an SBR (NFA class)...

and IIRC 26" to 30" OAL is considered a pistol- less OAL is a no-no.

16" minimun barrel length
26" minimum OAL

18 USC 921(a)(8)The term ''short-barreled rifle'' means a rifle having one or more barrels less than sixteen inches in length and any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise) if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches.

18" on shotguns, 16" is only for rifles.

Shaggy and Dano have it.

16" min. barrel length for rifles
18" min. barrel length for shotguns

26" min. over-all length for either.

LOL_ That's odd in reading my post it appears I "have it" as well!!

The original question DID specify rifle- not shotgun.
