I went to the VF gun show on Saturday. The show was wall-to-wall people. I walked around for 4 hours checking out everything the show had to offer. Sad to say, I didn't see much in the way of deals. For instance, there was one table that had a table with a PILE of surplus rifle stocks. At the bottom of the pile, I found an green painted M-14 E2 stock that had seen better days. I asked how much the wanted for it. The guy looked at me straight faced and quoted me $250. I promply put back in the pile and walked away. The only things I walked out with were a couple of mags and some protective sight covers for my M1A. Anybody else have a similar experience? |

I went Saturday and I wasn't terribly impressed either. I try to go to all the VF shows, but I'm really getting weary of getting packed in like sardines when there's really not that much in the way of buys. It was far too crowded; it took me 10 minutes to get about 10 yards down one aisle (literally)...and it wasn't because I was taking my time to peruse the goods. Wall to wall people. At least Harrisburg is getting much better for that. If they're going to pack the tables in like that, they need to make it both floors like they used to. All I ended up getting was a pair of BDU's and a barrel thread adapter for my P22. |

Went today (Sunday). Wasn't quite as crowded, but there wasn't much in the way of deals to be had. Picked up a nice set of wood grips for my 617 and an inexpensive red dot sight to try out on my Citation. Found one decent deal, which was a 98% S&W M18 that I could have gotted for $350 OTD, but decided to pass on for no particular reason. I know I'll regret it when I get the urge for a Model 18 again. |

Sad to say anymore the VF show and for that matter most of the local shows suck . I can't speak for the Harrisburg show i've never been to it. I sure do miss the shows of years gone by ,where you could find deal after deal and the place was packed with guns. Not beanie babies, toys, and all the other yard sale shit you can think of. |
I love it..."yard sale shit"...thats perfect. I think the number of tables littered with knives, swords, beanie babies and beef jerky outnumbered those with guns. Not that there's anything wrong with knives, but its a GUN show. Call me whiner, but I want to see more GUNS. |

I was a bit disappointed as well. It's only about a 5 minute drive for me, however, so at least it is convenient. Would probably have been more disappointed if I drove any significant distance. The one last fall (sept/oct? - missed the one in June) was the best one I remember since the new promoter started the shows again - has it been two years now, or just one? Anyway, that one seemed to have drawn a lot of other distant vendors that you don't see around here otherwise. Those seem to be dropping off the past two shows, however, and for the most part, it seems to be back to the usual folks seen at every other local show. The old shows put on by Borderline were much better. I didn't find the crowd quite as bad this time around - was there from opening to about 11, then back again from 1:30-3. The aisles seemed a bit wider, and less stupidly set up - don't recall any poles in the middle of high-traffic aisles this time. I agree about the junk - the funny thing is most of that junk is on their list of stuff vendors aren't supposed to be able to bring. The back part of the hall that is only 1/2 the length wide was pretty much totally useless, except perhaps for TNT, if you reload. Rad2112 - coulda been someone else, but I was also standing right next to a guy who asked about that stock and had the same reaction. Right afterwards another guy asked about one of the normal walnut stock and was quotes $80. He asked "for the M14 stock?" in disbelief and put it down very carefully. Rocko |
