What is the best way to lighten up the trigger pull on my SMLE? Are there aftermarket triggers available? Its a good trigger as is, but could stand to be a bit lighter. Many Thanks, JarHead94 |

I'd try a google search. There is/was a website devoted to Enfield triggers. There's multiple Enfield forums as well. That said I'm not real big on amateur trigger jobs. Dennis Jenkins

I'd be interested in how to make my No4's trigger better... ... if it wasn't already pretty damn sweet! A little creep, but a clean, sudden break, at maybe 4lb or so. I guess I lucked out and got a nice one? I'm going to be putting a Parker Hale 5c rear sight on her soon, so I'll see how she does in the accuracy department. |

If I could have answered your question, I certainly would have. The only thing I do know about No.4 Enfield triggers is that the MKIs had a single-stage trigger, while the MKIIs had a double-stage trigger. I leave any trigger mods more complicated than a drop-in replacement to qualified, experienced gunsmiths, myself. For me, better my trigger be gritty and heavy than unsafe. -Troy |

Matthew... Mine is really nice and crisp too! But it damn sure ain't 4lbs. I hope yours shoots well, I haven't shot mine yet. I still need to get all the cosmoline off of it. Post on here how well yours shoots! Troy: I hope you know I was just being a smartass! JarHead94 |

I polished the trigger pin and the sides of the trigger, as wel as the sear pin and sides of the sear. I polish the inside of the sear where the trigger moves, and the top of the bumps on the trigger, keeping them round. Polished the sear contact point on the striker, too. It was notched from so many years of use. Made sure the sear tip was smooth and free of burrs and nicks. Make sure you have a grooved trigger, I picked one up at a gunshow for a few bucks. My N04 is my favorite rifle to shoot. Tim |

Jarhead, I have shot my No4Mk1 once so far. Probably about 35 rounds of some handloaded 125gr softpoints. Charges weren't measured, so they were not very consistant (they were some of my first reloads, using a Lee Loader) at 50 yards, from the bench with the goofy leaning front sight I had on it, and the stock Mk3 rear sight flipped up and set at 200, it would hold all of those shots within 3". Not too impressive, but the ammo was crappy, so I won't hold that as a testiment to how well she shoots. I have a Parker Hale sight on the way, which should make accurate shooting a breeze... and I've already replaced the front sight with a much straighter one! |

Jarhead, the CadTechnik mounts are supposed to be the bombdiggity for scope mounting on a No4. Since it doesn't require any modification, except for removing the old rear sight. It's supposed to be the most stable from what I hear. I think later on, I'm going to try to find another No4 to top with a scope. I really want to get an Ishapore 2A next. Something so I can use it as a beater/truck gun, and use the more ubiquitous .308/7.62x51 Has anyone else heard of the No4Mk10 that is being produced by a company in Australia? It's a NEW CNC machined, updated No4 receiver. It will be chambered in .303, .308/7.62, 7.62x39 and 223 from what I hear. It will be ALL NEW construction and when imported (I hear the import paperwork is being hung up), should cost around $500US. Check it at www.lawranceordnance.com/new/rifle-m10.html (no pictures yet, but a good description) |

Matthew_Q, Thanks for the link and info. My #4 is in pristine condition and I want to dress it up with a leather cheek pad muzzle break, and leather sling. I thought that the cad-technik didn't require you to remove the rear sight? Thats a big let down for me. I want to keep the rear sight on the rifle if at all possible. JarHead94 |
Jarhead, as far as I know, you just remove the old sight and the mount goes into it's place. You can take the mount off and put the sights back on in a few moments. No alterations to your rifle are made. Just keep the old sight parts in a baggie, and you're good to go when you want them back on. Carcano, I ordered the Parker Hale 5c sight from a guy in England. $125 shipped. Hasn't gotten to me yet. It is the 'peep' style sight, with windage and elevation adjustments, as well as 6 different size aperture eyepeices. Like the mount above, it does not require any permanent modification to the rifle, it just takes the place of the military sight. I think the guy's email is [email protected].. I can check when I get home, if I don't forget. |
