I am thinking about picking up a T/C Contender in rifle form. Anyone have one, and what do you think of them?

I like the hell out of mine... I have two Contender Frames and one Encore Frame... about seven Contender Barrels and 3 Encore barrels.  All shoot well.

I have a T/C Contender.  first of all it's a carbine.  they don't make "real" rifle barrels for them.  they are great little single shot guns.  very accurate. 1-2" at 100 yds.

i also have a TC Encore that i love.  they are just like the contender except they will not shoot rim fire .22.  you can get a Encore chambered in everything from .223-458 winmang.

i have barrels in .308win and 300 winmag.  it's an honest 1" at 100 yd rifle.  they make a folding stock that is very handy and i cary mine with a cross body (tactical) sling when i go elk hunting.  if you get the folding stock you can make up a oversized recoil pad because the standard one is narrow and painful to shoot.

308wood,

I do realize that the Contender is really only a carbine and that is just fine, as I will be using it at 100-200 yds. max.

I thought the Encore is a non-interchangeable barrel, no?

the Encore will not interchange with the contender.  but you can change out multiple Encore barrels on multiple Encore frames.  it's just with the contender you are stuck with .223, 30-30 and .45-70(low powered).  with the encore you get the above plus everyting short of the new supermagnums and short magnums.

OK, cool.

I guess I will start looking at the Encore line.

Thanks.

The down side of the Encore is that the trigger is not a match grade trigger (like the contender) it's an uncommon gun so most gun smiths don't can't won't work on them.  but do you want your local gun smith learning how to do a trigger job by working on your gun?  SSk Industries is considered by many to be the premier contender and Encore gunsmith and they always has one or two frames with trigger jobs ready for sale.  they are not the cheapest bunch but they only use the best and never cut corner. I have a stainless frame and it looks slick with a blue barrel.  kind of like a high priced over and under shotgun.  SSK also does custom barrels and scroll work.
