What is the best finish for a heavy-use firearm besides SS? SS shines and doesn't count. Opinions please. Take a pick and tell me why. I've got parkerized because it keeps oils, decreases friction wear, and just looks cool (CDI)!!! Patrick |

A thin coat of flat epoxy paint over new, thoroughly degreased Parkerizing is very hard to beat, and inexpensive. For that matter, a similar coat of epoxy paint over bead-blasted stainless is excellent as well. Some of the newer, proprietary finishes are truly excellent. That said, there are very good, much less expensive alternatives. |

I've had excellent results with Mac's so far and his prices are very reasonable. www.shootiniron.com/ |

Spray-on bake-on coatings work well for corrosion resistance but when it comes to abrasion resistance hard chrome is by far the best. I have guns that were chromed 20+ years ago and both show little sings of wear. If you don't mind a "white" pistol hard chrome is the best finish, IMO. |
