What do ya'll think about this little round?

Ok, I'll tell you what I think of the round!
I LOVE IT!
I have a NEF with a 3-9x40 Bushnell Banner.
I have shot the following up to 150 yards...
crows, pigeons, ferral cats, squirrels, potatoes, oranges, pumpkins and pinecones! Accurate as all get out. All the above targets explode dramatically. Not like a 22-250 but still impressive from such a small round.
Will I use it on coyote? Yep. Then again I'll kill a deer with a .223 in a heartbeat!
Get one! I haven't picked up my 10/22 since I bought it!

I like it so far.  Just converted my 10/22 WMR to a 10/17 with a Clark barrel.  Haven't had a chance to shoot it in daylight yet, but I zeroed it by flashlight (flashlight shining on target, no light at the bench) and it shot just over 1/2 MoA.  More energy, less drift and drop, I'm sold.

sweet!  I just got a ruger 96/17 lever action for a good price.  I would like to get a .22 wmr bbl for it one day..  I can't wait to shoot it!..  how much is ammo selling for?   Is it difficult to find?  I can't recall seeing it in stores.  I plan on using it for a "truck gun".  If I like it alot, I'd like to get a heavy bbl bolt version.

I have a stainless steel Marlin bolt in 17HMR. Very accurate and nice to shoot. Now if I only had some crows around to shoot at....

I do highly recommend the 17HMR for light varmit type work. It seems to be innately accurate.

Man this is timely post, I just ordered a Winchester 9422 in 17 cal yesterday. Can I ask if any of you buy your ammo online?

After reading you guys post's I am anxious to get mine, it should be here next Thursday. It's also comforting to read your personal accounts of the 17 hmr match what the gun writers have to say about it.  M60 thanks for asking the question.

And on sunny days you've taken out ants, grasshoppers, beetles, and worms with a magnifying glass?

I can't find ammo anywhere!  Damn!  Does anyone know if I can use a 96/22mag bbl. and convert it to .22wmr? or even a 10/22wmr bbl.

thanks!

Glad I found this post, I was about ready to order up a Savage 93 bolt action in .22 WMR, but since Savage also makes a .17 HMR (called the 9317FV), I'm starting to reconsider.

Any of you know of a link that compares the 22LR, 22WMR and the 17HMR?

M-60   www.Sinclairintl.com has 17HMR and offers a better price if you buy in quantity.

I'd be very intrested in this. Does it use standard mags? Where did you get the barrel?
do you need to change out any other parts?
Thanks,

Yes, uses the standard 10/22 Magnum magazines, which feed just fine, since the .17HMR is just a .22 WMR necked down to accept a .172" bullet.  I got my barrel from Clark Custom.  Lilja and Green Mountain also make drop in barrels for the 10/22 RBM.  You can also use any of the .17 barrel made for a 77/22, but those will require shimming, and some who have done that conversion are seeing some case head ballooning.  Assuming your stock is inletted for the diameter barrel you swap to, the conversion doesn't require any other parts.  In my case, I went from a .920" .22 WMR bull barrel to Clark's midweight .17 barrel, which is .720", so I also had to replace my stock.  Clark has a sale on the barrels and their stocks right now, so I got both pieces for right at $300.

For more info or pics e. mail me at [email protected] or go to www.rimfirecentral.com and check out the .17 forum.

I bought the Savage 93/17 at Dunham's for $135.  It was the cheapest 17 rifle I've seen and it shoots well.  The trigger needs work but I can have someone local adjust it for $25.

Try Mid South Shooter's Supply they have the best price I've found, about 8.02 per box by the brick (that includes shipping).   Although they tend to be on back order status often.  Midway also has it on sale this month and in stock too.  With my C&R discount I got it for 8.20 per box by the brick, 9.00 per box once you add in the shipping.  I wish I could find a rifle to shoot it out of let alone a deal on one.  Everyone in my neck of the woods wants 100.00 over the suggested retail and they don't even have them on the shelf!  I hate to admit it but I am thinking about putting myself on the 6 week waiting list at Wally World so I can buy it for list price!!!  Sad, huh?
