Well I went and purchased myself a Christmas present today and got it for under a grand. The rifle is maked: PALMETTO ARMORY around a palm tree. CAL .223-5.56 MOD.B4.15A1 SN 618X It is also marked: SGW OLY. WASH. USA It is configured as a CAR15. Now the receiver appears to be milled and not forged or stamped. Very little finish remains on the lower receiver and mill marks are very visible (not rough by any means, but visible}. The barrel appears to be about 14inches with a long solid FH with vents at the end. What do any of you know about the Palmetto rifles and maybe the age of this one? Thanks, Russell |

SGW (Oly Arms ancestor) cut receivers from barstock for Palmetto. Your sn fits the series shown on the Oly webpage (1000 to 8845); according to the webpage dates of manufacture were from mid-March 1979 to early June, 1982...obviously/definitely a pre-ban. Original Palmetto Armory was in Columbia, SC and made rifles/pistols/swords for the Confederacy. -hanko |
