My present CAR-15 heavy barrel has fixed sights w/ ACOG TA01 in carry handle. I have a new Bushmaster 16" heavy barrel w/ BMAS front folding sight and removable carry handle ordered. My present gun also has the KA RAS handguard. Need to know what experiences are out there with the newer setups. My experiences are from '72 (A1) to present (preban A2 CAR-15).
Would I be better off with the A.R.M.S system and is it durable? Several of the old timers at Bushmaster don't like the newer A.R.M.S. (due to the belief in K.I.S.S.). I know the TA51 mount will work but which system gets the scope back far enough and still be able to keep iron sights? Is the A.R.M.S. sighting system 2 peeps or a peep and a notch? Had them try the BMAS rear sight and ACOG will not clear it and come back far enough (which is a shame, since it is built like a tank with a less complicated system). Give me your thoughts on which system might be the most durable.
