Man, I love having a C&R license! Picked this Finnish Sako M39 up from Wholesale Guns and Ammo in the springtime. First time to the range was today. I'd highly recommend these 91/30 based rifles to anyone looking for a Nagant style rifle under $160.

Shooting surplus Yugo ammo - irons, 50 yards, with 50 yd. target - sitting (2.2" 6 shot string):

I think its smiling at me

And irons at 100 yards with 50 yd. target -sitting (2.8" 5 shot string):

Actually the Yugo was all I had. I purchased the ammo from Aim Surplus - at .11 cents a round so I wasnt expecting match accuracy. I'm sure with a little ammo selection/testing, I might see those groups tighten up even more. Any idea where to get the Hungarian ammo? Perhaps I'll give the Russian surplus a go next time around as well.

I picked up a Russian M44 for a buddy of mine, and the best grouping I could do was about 6 inches at 100, albeit the bore was quite rough, and the recoil/blast on the 44 was twice as nasty with the 39. Caught myself flinching a few times and the trigger pull was horrible. The 39 shoots and feels like an entirely different rifle - quite a bit of takeup in the trigger, but the thing breaks at about 5 pounds. Needless to say, I'm quite pleased with the results from today - and unlike the 44, my shoulder thanks me as well.

I love the heck out of my M39 as well. The kick does make you think twice don't it?
I paid $139 as well. Haven't shot my M44 yet.
