Anybody have any idea what a really nice stainless steel Delta Elite runs? Looking to get one, but not sure of the values, let's say 95%-98%. I'm new to the 1991 style pistols so any pitfalls in this gun? Anything unusual? Thanks, Ed |
| I'd guess $ 800-900 ish off the top of my head. I'll try and remember to post the book value later when I get a minute (for whatever that's worth). My buddy has one I've been trying to get away from him for years (I actually got him to agree to sell it to me then felt guilty and let him off the hook) nice gun I want one. |

I have a Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup that I bought in '92. The only difference is that it has an adjustable Accro sight has is available on Colt revolvers. I think I paid something like $700 brand new in the box from the local gun store. My old shooting range had a Delta Elite that they rented out. I think the slide cracked behind the ejection part after 3,000 full power PMC factory rounds, and the frame cracked at the slide stop hole after 5,000. The factory loaded 10mm ammo has the velocity of a 9mm Para(approximately 1,100-1,200 feet per second), and bullet wieght of a 45ACP(170 grains) a true magnum round. My recommendation would be if you don't reload, is to buy a Glock or a Smith & Wesson 10 series that is chambered in 10mm, they are built to take the pounding of the magnum round. I reload my 10mm to approximately 45ACP levels in order not to crack the slide/frame, but I could shoot full-power factory ammo if I wanted to. Yeah I know should've bought a 45ACP to begin with, but I was young and stupid. |

What exactly make one of the Colts a "Gold Cup"? Are they a target version of a 1911 (1991A1)? And yeah Delta Elites are only in 10mm and they are getting to almost be collectors items. Back in the day a NIB SS Delta Elite was around 7-750. Installing a heavier recoil spring helps to take some of the punishment off the slide, but yeah 5,000 rounds of relatively "hot" loads will crack it about that time. |
Delta Gold Cups - Lets see, I'm looking at the Colt brochure circa 1991 from my files, the Delta Gold Cup was available in both blued(model 05810) and stainless(model 05010), it has the Accro sight that is adjustable for windage & elevation, the Colt 45ACP adjustable trigger, and the "black pebbled wraparound combat-style grips with the red triangle inside a circle." Well thats it boys & girls, what the diff between the 10mm Delta Gold Cup and regular Delta Elite. Notice the Delta Elite Gold Cup does not have the words "national match" roll-marked on the slide that is on the 45ACP Gold Cup, so it is probably not accurized etc anymore than a regular Delta Elite. I've got the Kings 10mm guide rod with dual-heavy recoil springs and dual shock-buffs to protect my "investment." Cool, I can sell my SS Delta Gold Cup for $1,200, better than money in the bank. Incidently for those who cracked the frames, I understnd that Colt will manufacture a new frame for you with the same serial number for a price, but I have not checked it out. |
| You guys need to go to a few 1911 sites and straighten out the facts.......first of all...don`t confuse 1991 colts with 1911 colts.....you are comparing apples and oranges.......delta guns are all 10mm.....for some reason...they are bringing high dollars at the auction sites.....and it isn`t because they crack all over the place as some like to report......although I would not doubt some may have ended up with a lemon......most of them survive quite well.....as far as gold cups.....did you ever think about what the gun mfg`s do in the custom shop?.....that`s what a gold cup is...compared to a gov`mt 1911.......gold cups also have a few captive parts...that are not found on std guns......check out some websites and get info.......you need it |

BlackandGreen: Thanks for the useful insight. Very much appreciated. No links, no more info except standard stuff that kinda goes assumed anyway... Why do you feel the need to come and hijack the thread? Silly, silly antics, but thanks though you're a real credit to the site. Ed |
| No hijacking.......use your search capabilities.......go to the handgun site with your questions.....spend some time educating yourself like a lot of us have.....and don`t make any assumptions...or accusations....until you are sure of ...at least part of what the hell you`re talking about......and...I suggest.....don`t come here looking for arguements......you`re sure to get them.....oh....and...it`s probably not a good idea to insult members......thanks for the compliment |

This was my thread in an attempt to garner knowledge. My question was rooted in what is the value......and you know what some of the people you flamed gave the answers that matched what I had alreay found. Thanks for being a real pleasure to deal with and a real asset to our community.......evidenced by your cavalier representation of yourself and the "Team AR15.com" moniker. I chose to cut out and edit several parts of this post, to show my respect for the site. So Maynard if you check it again, make sure the other side of the problem understands that by CREATING a situation-- makes more work for you. Ed |
Go get a copy of Gun List newspaper & check their ads for Delta's. They list nationwide so you should have ample opportunity to find what you want. I bought my S&W 52 that way. You can also run a "wanted to buy" ad in case you don't see what you want. Hope this helps. |
Well, I don't know about the "survivalability" of other Delta Elite 10mms, but I know the one I described is accurate, conversely under the same rental conditions, they have a rental Glock 17 frame that survived something like 500,000 rounds of various ammo. You can take for what its worth in a real life experience. Regarding the Delta Elite Gold Cup, your're right they do have a few extra parts internally in the trigger mechanism to compensate for the heavier adjustable trigger to prevent trigger bounce. |
Some people can`t deal with a 10......just not "politically correct".......except for the trigger...(mines wilson) that 10 is a copy of mine.........

I owned a Delta Elite SN DE06XXX, I had over 10K rounds of factory ammo through it, only changed out the Mainspring housing for a flat one. I have yet to see a Delta that was cracked, and I now own another. I have heard all the rumours as well, in 86 it drove down the price FWIW I just paid $599 for a NIB Delta Elite Enhanced in blue. *Edited by Arock to remove serial number. |
