Any out there who can give me some feed back on the Model ! Sales A2 kit? Is it any good? How do they stack up to other? Trouble free shoot'n or are there alot of FTFs,FTAs,ect, ect? |
| I have built several kits from Model 1 sales. All worked as well as any AR I have ever owned or shot. That being said, they lie with frightening regularity about when the kit will be sent. "Next week" meant six months in one case and "next month" was almost a year. I haven't ordered from them in about 2 years so maybe things have changed, but I was almighty pissed with them before. Quality=good, lying ability=spectacular. |

NOOOOOOOO! I did that, and trust me, if i could go back, I'd spend an extra $15 and get a J&T kit (plus $50 or so extra for a chrome lined 5.56 chamber and bore.) Heres why: Ad showed a pre-ban, recieved a post-ban (after asking them) Elevation knob detent pin or what ever its called missing. Extracter showed wear, but they claimed it was new MUD, YES MUD in my butstock, again, they claimed it was new, BULLSHIT. It works, but the barrel is heavy as hell so i decided to get a bushy barrel, after all this, i could have just about bought a new bushy for what I've spent. |

Well the deal is I'm looking to buy a used one,it's the Model one kit on a DPMS lower. I'm used to mil-spec weapons and don't feel like try'n anything new right now if you know what I mean. So if the gun is complete and works and I don't have to deal with Model 1 is the ghun on it's own worth having or is it a 2nd class weapon? |

Mine worked perfectly too. No wiggles at all on a Rock River Arms lower, all the pins fit snug like they should. I use M193 and still get inch and a half groups off of a sandbag at 100 yards/meters. Didn't have to adjust the rear sight any either. It was like they had already test fired it. I don't notice the lack of chroming. But I do wish now that they used 1 in 7 twist barrels to keep up with future ammo improvements. Oh, and mine doesn't like laquered steel case ammo. Once it gets heated up, the cases stick fast and only a cleaning rod down the bore will knock them out. However I have found out here that this is not uncommon even amongst more expensive AR's so I don't worry much. I've been disposing of the last of my Russian ammo through plinking using my 5rnd hunting magazine- it never gets hot enough to stick. |
A second (ore third or 100th) for J&T... Awesome service and products! |

Parts kits vendors to avoid: Model 1 Sales [As stated earlier, they have elevated lying to an art. During the 1999 rush I ordered a 20" kit from them, because they assured me that they had it in stock and it would ship immediately. After waiting two months I cancelled my order. Three months after that the UPS man brought me my Model 1 order... COD. I sent it back.] American Spirit Arms [ASA offers spotty quality - some of their kits are stellar while others are crap - and hostile customer service.] Sarco [From what I've heard their kits were real dogs. Do they still offer them?] Okay parts kits vendors: M&A [Sure they're somehow related or divorced from the people at Model 1, but they generally have their kits in stock and will promptly ship your order. Their kits are... well... okay.] Oly [Oly's okay. No flame intended.] Great parts kits vendors: J&T [They provide good service and solid kits - even though their slings aren't GI. But then again most kits don't come with slings.] RRA [As long as you don't try to reach them via e-mail or order something that is in production, you'll get great stuff at competetive prices.] Bushmaster [If they have it you'll get it and love it. If you don't love it, it's because the front sight is canted. Anyway, they'll take care of that promptly also.] |

Both Model 1 and M&A include some retread (direct exchange) parts in their kits. For instance, the buttstocks usually have worn buttplates and the finish of the buttstock itself looks as if it's been sanded with a belt sander. Anyone else notice this? Frankly, if you're really thinking about going with Model 1 Sales I'd suggest that you consider M&A instead. They have relatively the same prices and kits but better service. Plus, if you order from M&A you'll actually the hear the other guy in the garage assembling uppers. Anybody else notice that? |
LOL, like pulling teeth. I had a Model 1 kit that served me well and was rather inexpensive. Mine was a 16" CAR and was completely trouble free. I would consider buying one again new or used if the price was right. In my opinion, yes a Model 1 kit on a DPMS lower would make a fine plinker. However, I think that people are saying that if Model 1 has trouble servicing those that buy new kits, they likely won't be much help to you if you buy used. |
