How does one mount a bayonet onto a 16" preban barrel with a Phantom suppressor? You can't right? Is there something I'm not aware of? I'm weighing the purchase of either a 14.5"M4 (which holds a bayonet), a 16" fluted (which does not, I think), or a 16"M4 (which also does not). The ring on the bayonet has to hug the flash suppressor correct? The barrel on the 16 isn't fat enough to keep it snug. Is the 16" M4 version fat enough? |
| On a 16 inch. barrel the distance from the lug to the flash suppressor is too long. The ring on the bayonet falls short of it. The barrel, even an HBar is no where near the O.D of the F.S.. You would need one of those slip over XM-177 type flash suppressors or an M-4 barrel (14 inches). For the M-4 you would have to register it as a short barreled rifle since the barrel length is less than 16 inches. An alternative would be to get the 14.5 M-4 barrel and have a phantom F.S. permanently attached to reach the 16 in. length. The bayonet would fit but the F.S. would stick out over the blade a little more than is normal. Someone makes a clamp on bayonet lug but I'm not sure where I saw it. |
