Will a FAL bipod fit on a post ban FAL over the muzzle brake? (ie the IAI M444) or does it need a special barrel to accept the bipod? How about handguards? Are the ones that accept bipods readily available?

The barrel has to be knoched for the bi-pod. You don't have to slip those over the top of the barrel, they come apart.

Handguards are readily available.  You can intstall the bipod in the sling swivel cut if your barrel doesn't have the bipod cut, but then you've lost your swivel spot.  I fail to see much usefulness for the bipod myself.

The barrel must have a cut for the Bipod swivel, and the handguards must also have the relief for same.
DSA offers a Quick Release Bipod Assy that attaches in place of the fixed bipod.  This seems to offer the best of both worlds.  Price increase ought to be reduced if bought at the same time as the rifle is purchased.
