I have the chance to purchase a preban PWA. I know nothing about these rifles and thought mabe someone could give me some info on the quality of PWA. Rifle looks exactly like a Colt SP1 and the guy said he purchased it new in 85. It is about $300-400 less that I can get a nice Colt SP1 for, which is what I had planned on buying, Anybody have any comments or suggestions? Thanks Mark |

Mark, PWA makes a nice rifle. If the guy says he purchased it new, make sure you get the receipt, box and anything else that can prove it's status. This is just to cover your six. If you don't get it no big deal. I have not met any shooter who has been questioned as to the true status of his rifle. I owned one before and sold it to a friend. I wish I did not. It is a good purchase. Keep in mind I would not pay more than 1000 for it. They have forged recievers and are of good quality. You can't go wrong. I hope this helps. Max |

mt m4gery is on a PWA preban. nice lower. the upper on the gun was an old A1, but its full m4 now. the lowers are finished real nice, and all the uppers i have tried fit tight. also a nice hard smooth black finish. edited to add. i bought mine for 900, and that was a pretty good deal. i would buy one for 1000 |
I had one with a serial number in the 7,000's. I bought it in 1990 so the serial number on this one does put it into the 80's. 85? I don't now. I have no clue when PWA started making lowers. PWA never made complete rifles. They sold lowers only. I'm pretty sure they only sold stripped lowers. Class II dealers (firearms manufacturers) bought them and built rifles often with surplus G.I. parts so make sure it has no unmodified M-16 fire control parts. If you can get the original receipt good but don't expect a box their aren't any boxes for PWA rifles. PWA no longer exists. Their tooling was sold to RRA. What's the upper look like? SP1(no forward assist) or M-16A1(forward assist)? I don't like the SP1 simply because of the way the upper and lower need a screw driver to separate. PWA's separate like a G.I. M-16. I was very pleased with the quality of my PWA but I think that $1000.00 is high. I'd feel that no more than $900.00 would be a fair deal considering that he probably paid under $400.00 for it when it was new. |
