I need help identifying the different gen types.
A while ago, someone had posted a pic of all three side by side. Anyone know where that thread/link is?

I think this is it but could be wrong:
Gen 1 - smooth grip
Gen 2- NO finger grooves but pebbled grip no frame accesory/light rail
Gen 3 - finger grooved grip/thumb rest + light rail.

best, DD
edited: Underdog is right on GenII re grips - dunno what i was thinking, i have a freakin gen 2 LOL.

Gen 1   Smooth grip without checkering on the front and rear strap. Very slippery when wet. I believe due to tight magazine wells, these only accept NFML Non-dropfree magazines. I also believe these are only found in G17's and G19's.
Gen 2   Checkering on the front and rear strap. Grip has molded texturized areas on the sides. Accepts both types of magazines.
Gen 3   Gen 2 grip with addition of molded-in thumbrests, finger grooves on the front strap and magazine grasping cutout not present on bottom of frontstrap of some models. Light and accesory rail molded on dustcover portion of frame.

I have heard of transitional models with finger grooves but no light rail but have not seen any personally

I had one. A Glock 21. It had the finger grooves but no rail. I ended up selling it and getting a full on Gen 3 so that I had the rail.

Get the GEN III.  The finger grooves are comfy plus you have the rail to add a light or something.

My G27 has a thumbrest & finger grooves BUT no magazine grasping cutout or accessory rail.

Would it still be considered a 3rd gen??
I bought it in either 1996 ot 97.

I don't think the mini glocks have accessory rails, at least I have not seen them.

(No, the miniGlocks do not have light rails; there isn't room for them.)
