I was talking to friend from work. He has become one of us. Meaning he purchased a black rifle. The problem is he purchased an ASA 9MM. It hasn't functioned properly from the start. It's a single shot. Well, maybe it's suppose to function like that. The Thompson Contender is a sigle shot and it is highly regarded. :D |
| Sorry to hear it. I have one and only had one mag related FTF. Otherwise it`s worked very well. What kind of ammo is your friend using? Also what maggs? They are apparently finicky depending on some loads and mags from what I have heard from others. I have had good luck with Amrerican Eagle 115 gr. rounds and ASA`s converted Uzi mags. HTH |
| I have an ASA magblock and barrel in my 9mm kit, and it's functioned flawlessly from day one in semi or full-auto. Actually I've had a couple issues with underpowered ammo(blazer), but I've gone through about 1200 rounds of Winchester white box 9mm without even a hiccup. |

I also have a couple ASA rifles. They function flawlessly. I bought from them because I am able to walk into their store whenever I want. I would reccomend your friend try different ammo and see what happens. Edit: Sorry my rifles are not 9mm...I missed that important part of the thread. |

Ditto on the mags, as mentioned above. The colt 9mm conversions unfortunately seem very sensitive to mags, ammo, etc. I just got a RRA setup, and the first time out using UMC ammo, I'd get failures every 3-4 rounds. Took it out again this weekend using the 100 round value packs of winchester walmart sells, and it was fine for the most part except being really dirty. I still get bolt over failures sometimes on the last round, both with an Uzi mag I converted and with one of the 40 round SA mags CDNN sells. I got a pair of those curved mags, though, and despite looking a bit goofy, they seem to function much better. You also may want to have him play around with the position of the mag block. While there isn't much room for it to move, and its position is pretty much determined by the ejector, there still is a bit of "wiggle" room in there that you may need to adjust for reliable feeding. So... while ASA's reputation isn't that great, the fault mag not really be with them. Seems like the only way to get a really reliable 9mm conversion is to use the $100+ colt mags. Rocko |
(note underline) Not for me and three others.... |

Let me be more specific.... Three of us built a mag adapter for the Colt style 9mm (ie ASA, RRA). I was unaware of another member (medicmike)having built one before the three of us started 'talking'. All you do is notch the Sten like the Uzi. Our post is under the pistol cal forum. I have an ASA 9mm set up (aka Colt clone 9) that uses the Colt/Uzi mag system. Now it uses Stens quite nicely. So you Oly guys using a Socom block or a spacer welded on aren't the only ones to use Stens now. Edited to fix the board codes.... |
