Just swung by my local gunshop, also a former employer, and saw a Federal Ordnance, of El Monte, California,  M1A/M14 type rifle.  It was used, sticker price of $700. The buttplate looked cheap, stock was ok, but the metal looked very good.  The new springfields on the rack beside it didnt feel too much tighter when cycling the action.  Since it's a local independent shop and I used to work for them I'm sure I could get it for $650 if not less. Is this a good price and are how is the quality/ reliability of these guns?

I would advise caution. The FedOrd M14-S rifles have the reputation of having the most crappy out of spec M14 type receiver ever made.

Thanks for the advice Noname. I really cant afford the thing anyway, but if it was a good deal I would found a way to squeeze the money out of my ass.  Since its not I'll leave it where it is.
