Been kicking around the idea of investing into some equipment to do Cerakote work in the city I live in. At the moment there is only one person doing it & he just started not to long ago. He's pretty backed up with work though. Nearest place other than him to have it done is 2 hours away. I do work a full time job but I get off at 2:30 pm & have weekends off. Just wondering if you guys think it would be a wise thing to try on the side. Not looking to get rich off it, just looking to generate some extra money. Any of you guys do this on the side or full time? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks... |

Even if there are there with you full time you have to have a FFL to do frames and receivers.
Professional applicators like myself have 10's of thousands invested in equipment and proper licenses and insurance. Not to mention cost of materials and time learning the craft. If you are going to do it you need the proper licenses and equipment. Just be prepared to spend a butt ton of money and know that its going to take a long time to start seeing a "profit" |
| I do it as a hobby and have well over $5000 invested at this point. You'll need to get a nice blasting cabinet, media, air lines, nice compressor, nice guns, supplies, degreasing tanks, ovens, and the other various equipment just to do a decent job. Not to mention the FFL and other licenses. You'll also need a separate safe for your customers pieces. I have thought about it, but I think it might take all of the fun out of my gun hobby. |
