I am currently removing Krylon from a lower receiver with acetone. It is getting it off but not as easily as I was led to believe. Maybe there are better products out there. I have gone through several toothbrushes and rags and there is still a ton of paint in the small cracks and hard to reach places.

Well that thread looks familiar :)

OP: Acetone works, but it sucks to do. What I have found to be a better remover that involves less work, and doesn't leave a white chaulky look to your gun is Citristrip:

Coat it, and 15 minutes later you're good to go. You can get it at any Walmart in the paint section.

will that stuff harm the underlying finish?

I tried all the bullshit spread around and none of the methods worked well, until I tried the gel citristrip. Put it on, let it lie for 10 minutes and the krylon starts bubbling off. You want a very stiff brush to then scrub the paint off in certain areas.

I literally just finished stripping the Krylon off my AR about 15 minutes ago. I tested several products before doing the whole thing; brake cleaner, gasoline, paint thinner, mineral spirits, paint stripping gel, and goof off. NOTHING worked faster than this stuff Klean-Strip Stripper Spray. Absolutely no elbow grease required. Spray it on and in a matter of 10-15 seconds you will start seeing the paint bubble. And no it wont harm the type III anodizing on the receivers. I pulled off all the plastic parts before applying this stuff, so I cant speak to it being corrosive to plastics.

I just used brake cleaner on a Bobro Aimpoint CompM4 mount.  I paid $56 for the mount and it came out awesome!
