| Now that I have done the Cerakote air dry on my modified Hogue handgaurd, I can't unscrew the handgaurd from the barrel nut. I can't tell if it is just glued together at the joint or if it has wicked in to the threads and sealed it like loctite. Please tell me I'm not the first moron to do this and someone now's how to get it apart without totally F ing up the finish. |
| Did you blast it while it was screwed together? Even though its the "C" series did you heat it to speed curing? If media and grease get combined and then bake it set up like concrete. If you went real thick some could of gotten into the threads. if its just some coating it should break free with some force. |

I blasted them as two pieces and soaked all parts in acetone for a couple of hours. I only screwed them together for the purpose of hanging them to spray. It's very possible I got a little heavy in some spots as I had to spray from multiple angles to get good coverage on the knurled portions. I haven't applyed any heat to the part since spraying it. If I understand you correctly, you're saying to apply force I assume in the form of shocking it to try and fracture the bond between the two parts. Should I try this now or wait the full week to let it cure and harden completely?

I used to do this often before i learned what was going on and how to combat this from happening. I always used my bench vise with leather padding and put the item in and softly and slowly clamped, released, spun, and repeated a few times and the items always came apart.
