I will be building a rifle soon and intend on painting it. I want to keep with desert tones just to break up the outline. But i really want to do something more than just camo. I saw up armored knives camo and its perfect. So i came up with this. It will be three colors. Probably a magpul FDE, a dark brown and a black. I am buying a new airbrush soon and will be practicing on mags and ammo cans before I go to town on my rifle.

I think i might purchase a cheap airsoft m4 to practice on, something like this  http://www.mrairsoft.com/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=624

Anyway, here is the camo design. What do you think? Any ideas, changes, airbrush tips or hints? Thanks.

Meh.  I don't really care for black in a desert pattern.  Really, where do you see black out there?  Maybe a touch of a sage-green? If you're near a desert (AZ or someplace), see what color green is prevalent when there is green.

When I was deployed, the Slovakian desert camo looked pretty decent, color wise.  The pixels were huge, but I think the color scheme, if done right, could be bad-ass.

Not the best picture, but it gives you an idea of the shade of green I'm talking about.

I'm also partial to the chocolate-chip pattern of the 90's era uniforms

The only black would be slight black shading on the inside where the skulls are just to give it a little depth and break up the transition from dark to light brown. The fish net looks black in the photo but would actually be dark brown. 95% of the camo would be FDE or dark brown.

I know this may not fit into a certain environment without a little green or more colors but basically what I am shooting for is large color distinctions (dark brown and light brown) to break up the all black pattern of the rifle. Similar to the copperhead design that is in another thread.

Where are you at in Oklahoma?  I'll be setting up my paint curing oven and blast cabinet here in the next few weeks so that I can begin spraying Cerakote and KG, so I'll be playing around with this stuff quite a bit in the near future.  If you are around OKC, let me know and we'll get together at some point.  Your box is full or I would have sent a IM.

OK, so I guess my coffee hadn't kicked in. The skulls are a very cool touch!  If it's just that little bit, then sure.  I'd personally have that touch of green, but now that I see the pattern ... much cooler than I originally thought. Belay my last!

This is the first of many designs I will make. I will make my next with some green in it also. Thanks for the suggestion.
