Hello Everyone,
I am looking to make my father's Beretta Px4 urban digi-cam. A while back I did my mother's m&p in duracoat pink/black http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=19&t=299844 and it turned out looking great. Though there are a few spots of pink of the frame that I have had to touch up... I don't have a sandblaster, and didn't then so I wonder if those spots are from being contaminated...or just from wear (though it isn't carried or shot more than 250 rounds). Anyways, my father recently purchased a PX4 compact that he would like done in urban digital camo, (looks like the LCW Urban Extreme Camo would be the closest match with Bulldog Arms stencils?) however it will likely be a carry gun so I worry about durability of duracoat especially without being sandblasted, only sanded. Have been considering ceracoat for its durability but lots of posts seem to infer it is very difficult to apply. So seeing its use, and what I would like to do, what are your suggestions for my refinishing it? 1. Buy a Harbor Freight Blaster (if so which one?) and duracoat? 2. Buy a HF Blaster and Ceracoat? 3. Hand sand with what grit (I used 1000? on the MP and didn't do the slide) and ceracoat or duracoat? 4. Send it off somewhere to have them do it (if so where?) |

Any finish that needs heat to cure is going to be a PITA for camo and that's if you don't have polymer parts. If you do then forget it, not going to work.
I use a modified HF sand blaster myself, works great but makes a big ass mess. I do it in the driveway with all the cars moved so I can sweep up the sand and reuse it. I just use fine playground sand I get at Home Depot (has to be this or will not work). You can get the best airbrush HF sell for pretty cheap but you'll also need to order the largest needle size (think its .05) to get enough paint out to make the finish flow. Cheaper route especially if you don't have a nice air setup with dryer and all that is THIS . They work with anything you can thin down enough to spray and they are reusable. You can also just buy the aerosol refills instead of the whole kit. Home Depot sells them and some craft stores too. Duracoat is the only way to go!!! |
