So, my beautiful blued finish is starting to show a whole lot of holster wear and after a hike in the rain it's starting to develop rust around the front sight and muzzle crown and I'm sure there are other areas that I can't even see that are getting rust spots. And during the summertime, I end up in the water a lot and the guns come with me most of the time. Not usually an issue with the AK or the Glock, but damned if I don't feel bad bringing all that blued steel into the river with me.
I'm debating parkerizing the gun, but I do have a buddy who has an airbrush and gobs of Duracoat and wanted to ask y'all, since this is the refinishing board and all: I. What steps would I need to take to do a full duracoat of this gun? A. Do I need to disassemble the gun down to the springs and pins and coat the internal bits too, or is the factory seal tight enough to keep water out of the guts? B. Do I need to coat the inside of the cylinder too? I'm pretty sure the raw steel parts were all just dunked in a bucket of blue prior to assembly, so I'm sure there's blue everywhere, on every steel surface. II. Since I never asked before, what's the process for removing blue? Other than bleeding all over it? There is a butcher shop right around the corner and if it saves me a few neo-shekels, I'm not opposed to just buying a pint of cow blood. |
