where can I ind a decent airbrush for painting a rifle? is ebay an option or should I look elsewhere.
Only if it's new and a reliable brand to start with like iwata or Paashe.Do some web searching to determine what your willing to spend. Most of the airbrushes used today are double action.1st action by pressing down on the top button 2nd action as you pull the button back and the needle moves back away from the cone the amount of paint blown on the needle increases.
For those of you who are having difficulty controlling the dual actual, they have a spring adjuster/line adjustment nut which allows you to preset how much media you want to come out so that you can just press the trigger down as you would just for air and it will also feed virtually making it into a single action
Personally, I use the $10 airbrush from Harbor Freight all three times I have Duracoated something. The first time it came out a bit glossy due to too much hardener, the last two times(one furniture, one a whole rifle) came out perfectly and the gun is so cheap I can just toss it out after I'm done isntead of wasting money on cleanup supplies. If you are doing alot of painting I would get a nice brush, but if you're only doing it occasionally I would go cheap instead of wasting money on something you won't ever use.
I would also recommend if you plan on doing more than one firearm get an airbrush compressor. Those cans of compressed air are a waste of time in my opinion. I bought a little compressor from Harbor Freight and it works great, as long as your hose is not too long.
