| I've used this rust remover on a marlin model 60 that I'm getting up to snuff. It worked well, and plus, it didn't take off any of the bluing. |

CLP, 0000 steel wool, and a light touch will do the trick. Looks like there's pitting, so you're likely to see bare metal. If you're going to redo the whole gun, and that includes refinishing the metal, then sand paper or media blasting is the fastest. Yeah, it's very light pitting. I seem to remember something about Naval Jelly to deal with pitting? I don't recall exactly, though. And I'm planning on refinishing the entire gun. I don't have a blasting cabinet, nor do I know anyone who does. I may take some sandpaper to it at this point. I'm gonna want to use fine grit, correct? Dry, wet? |

Been awhile but I think naval jelly takes off bluing and parkerizing. Check in a small out of the way place first.
I use 0000 steel wool and some 3n1 oil to remove rust. It won't get rid of the pits but it does wonders on surface rust. Just oil the steel wool and start scrubbing the rust spot. Wipe off the rusty oil with a paper towel and scrub some more. |

Yes, you can parkerize at home. It is relatively simple. Some people use the pre-packaged solution, and some make theirs from scratch. There are several accounts on the internet of parkerizing, and parkerizing using home made solution. Yup, I found a couple info sites online. Too bad the startup cost is pretty daunting. I mean, the steel tank alone is almost $200. $89 for a 3-burner LP stove, etc. |

I have parked several pistol frames, slides, and small parts in an enamelled steel pot on top of the kitchen stove. All you have to reach is about 180 F. Finding a cheap tank long enough for a shotgun barrel is possible. One source is restaurant supply houses, who sell stainless steel pans.
KG makes a spray on phophate type finish to be used as a primer for their Gun-Kote. You might look into that. It would definitely be the cheapest solution. I have no experience with it, however. There are CRB ways to do this. |
