Brake cleaner everything.... once you think its clean, do it one more time.
Search a little and you'll find several other's ideas on it...

Take it apart, and de grease.  Maybe even let the parts set in the sun to heat up.  That will cause any oil that you missed to show up.  Then de grease again, and use an air hose to blow off the break cleaner. This helps a lot. Then apply the finish of your choice.
