I picked up an older Winchester 94 a few weeks back and want to clean it up a little.  I've hit the archives for rust, etc but for some reason can not find much of anything.

What ways can I go about removing or reducing the small rust marks on the bbl?

Overall it is in good condition, just with a little wear on the receiver and the small rust spots on the bbl.

Thanks

Oh, its blued.  I've read where people could diminish the look of the small spots on bluing, id rather keep it as is than refinish.

0000 steel wool. and a nice oil. and go slow and light.

Buy an in-expensive bluing kit and use a toothpick if the spots are tiny, or a Qtip if slightly bigger. Only touch up the spots. Won't match perfectly, but the rust WILL come back if you dont apply something.

I've used 0000 + RB-17 bore cleaner and had great results...got the rust off, and didn't seem to hurt the bluing.

I used really fine steel wool and some CLP to get rid of nearly all of the rust specs on my 870.

Flitz.

I have been using it for ten years or more.

Works great.

I have used 0000 steel wool and wd-40 with great success. If there are pits then you have to use a file and refinish.
