I am happy with moly resin. I have not used it on an AR yet but the stuff is durable!!

Applied to a warm surface and then baked at 300 for an hour. It is pretty thin for being so duarble.

There is a whole forum here on finishing.  It is in the General section maybe?  There is a ton of info there!!!!!

IM going to move this to the dedicated refinishing section for the best results and answers.

Are you going to paint it, or have someone else do it?

I was going to have it done, unless powder coating is a good option. I have a side busniess doing pc. But never done a gun for use. I did do slide for a 1911 but it was ment to be for display.

I would think that with powder coating, you would have clearance issues.

Any of the higher end coatings (duracoat, moly, etc) have pretty good wear resistance.
It probably comes down to what color you might want, as some only come in certain colors, with duracoat probably having the biggest selection.

I think I will have it done in Dura Coat or molly resin. I may look in to doing my self since I have the cure ovens. I don't know what is needed for spray equipment so I will have to see. How hard is the Dura coat to apply?

Duracoat is simple to apply, I dont know if you can mess it up. I have tried and so far its always come out damn near perfect. You dont need to bake it either. Its nice to have an oven I bet though. You can speed things up by baking it at around 120 degrees for about 20 min. then be sure its cooled off before you let anything contact it. The heat makes it kinda soft in my experience. Once it cools off its pretty good to handle. Overnight its good to work with and in a week or two its pretty damned hard to damage.

Does everything require to be media blasted for Dura Coat?

No, I have used 220 grit sand paper to good effect.
