Just wondered if you had to sand on your upper and lower receivers on an AR before duracoating. thanks

I've never had to, as Duracoat adheres very well to anodizing.

Just make sure you degrease them very well (I've been using brake cleaner)....and just when you think you've done it enough, do it again.  Perhaps its overkill but for both an upper and stripped lower receiver, I easily go through 2 cans of the stuff.

Is duracoat durable?

I've been quite pleased with it - refinished ARs, a couple of shotguns and a pistol or two.

Surface prep is the key, making sure there are no oils/grease/dirt or grime.  Once cured, it is exceptionally wear & chemical resistant.  You have to be willing to allow the finish to cure however.  I refinished a shotgun a few months ago, and waited 3 weeks before reassembly -  Now its as hard as nails.

I've banged the pieces up against the safe, leaned them against the shelf ledges, with no ill effect.  So with normal wear and tear through useage or the occasional mishap, you'll still be very pleased with the finish.  Everything is bound to wear sooner or later I'm sure, but I do believe that Duracoat has proven to be quite effective.

I like the paw print on the AR.

If your shotgun is a pump, how has the duracoat held up to the pumping action around the mag tube?

I believe that's where the "dura" portion came from

That is probably where it came from, but that doesnt mean it is.

Duracoat will wear as will any finish where one parts rubs on another.

Yes, it will wear, scratch or get chipped if banged against other metal.

But as far as wearing away from rubbing on clothes or gear, it is durable whereas krylon and other spraypaints will definitely rub off against clothing and similar items.
