the very 1st gun i bought (i was 12-13, paid $45) was a break action single shot ithaca .410. it was in the condition you would expect a $45 gun to be in. chad (the previous owner) had engraved his name on both sides of the receiver.

anyway, i reblued it to the best of my 13 year old ability, but now (15 years later) the blueing is starting to wear thin again. i want to refinish it again, but this time i want to do it right.

i was thinking a green gun cote spray for the barrel and receiver, and a bed-liner spray for the furniture. i would really like to fill the engraving on either side of the reciever prior to refinishing the gun. it is fairly deep.

i thought about stripping, cleaning and degreasing the receiver than filling the engraving with an epoxy-something like JB weld because I can than sand it smooth.

does anyone else have any thoughts or suggestions?

thanks,

-matt

Lauer (DuraCoat) makes a filler that might work.  I have not used it however so I can't comment on it's usefulness.  Might be worth a call to them.
