I made a bad decision and coated a receiver in Alumahide and it did not turn out well. I want to get the finish off and do it right with either Duracoat or Norrels. SO... how to get off the Alumahide? Acetone?? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. |
Brake Cleaner should pull it right off. You may also try Carb Cleaner. |
I don't remember which one it was but one of them (Brake or Carb Cleaner) bubbled mine right off! |

I'm hoping that you started trying to remove it as soon as you figured that you didn't like it. The longer you wait, the harder the finish is getting. Carb cleaner, brake cleaner, acetone, lacquer thinner, or any number of other solvents floating around your garage should be a good start. You may need to soak it, and do a little work with a brush. |
Nope. It has been on for months now. But it chips too easy. What if I duracoat over it? |
Most people who have used AHII have commented that it chips easily when compared to Norrells/ GK/ DC. I tend to look at it as a step above Krylon, but far below the above finishes. |
If you apply the stuff in light, even coats, it's as tough as nails. It's not as tough as a baked on finish, but it's also MUCH easier to touch up. I never had any problems with the AH2 finish on my last bolt gun. |
