It had been a while since I had shot my blued SA inc. 1911-A1 so, after a range trip yesterday I tore it down. While doing so, I found a couple of tiny rust spots under a grip panel on one side of the frame(the are pin head size but visibly brown). I scrubbed at the spots with a brass brush and some hoppe's but, am kicking myself for being sloppy on my maintenance/storage. Can you guys recommend a course of action to make sure this doesn't get worse and how to best remove any bit that's left.

Thanks for any input.

I use 00 steel wool and some kind of oil (10-30 is what I have on hand right now).  Takes the rust off of anything without stripping finish.  I've used it on magazines and guns.  Works really well for cleaning up C&R's.

fine steel wool is a good choice.

In the future, you could try applying a thin film of rust inhibitor under the grips.
