Nice gear. now you need to go out and buy a helmet and mount I have the Crye Nightcap coming and Wilson shroud and mount coming. Quoted:
I think the DBAL D2 is awesome, I just hate how cheap the mount feels and that the illuminator cap has broken on mine twice now. The first thing I thought was that I need to get some replacement parts for the covers. Those bands are going to break. ;) |

You guys that got great tubes from TNVC, did you ask for a nice one before you bought it or just randomly place an order? I ask because my experience hasn't been the same...yet. But I'm still hopeful for a happy outcome! Hmmm, seems you had some SLIGHT blems (but within our own spec) and you wrote me personally yesterday... and I wrote you back immediately, and like all our customers you are getting taken care of NOT just because you aired your concern here now. We deal with thousands of customers and only a fraction here on the ARFCOM. 99% of ALL our customers randomly place their orders for our units. While some tubes are NOT perfect (NONE of them are, but pretty darn good over the years), we do our best accommodate if they are NOT happy just like your tube which was damn pretty. BUT if you ain't happy as so many know, we make it right and ALWAYS have. Merry Christmas. Vic |

I ordered an L3 unit from TNVC on Black Friday and it doesn't look like your's. Your photos are much clearer and less grainy than mine looks to the naked eye.
I also have several blemishes that my eye is constantly drawn to. Two of the spots are actually within zone 1, even thought the data sheet says 1 spot in zone 2 , 2 spots in zone 3. There's even a "bright spot" in zone 2 that isn't indicated on the data sheet. Are these data sheets even accurate? Another thing is where the j-arm threads into the housing, one of the steel threads appears bent/broke and is lodged down in there. I heard it's luck of the draw with these things but after seeing your photos, honestly my heart sinks. The amount of hours I worked to pay for this thing... good Lord

As he's demonstrated in this thread, he goes above and beyond to keep people happy. |

Understanding that some tubes are nicer than others, I thought maybe I was supposed to suck it up. I also wasn't sure if perhaps I was being overly critical, and that the issues with my unit were typical. So far all my interactions with the staff at TNVC have been excellent, by the way. Didn't mean to whine... was an uncomfortable post to write actually. |

Didn't mean to whine... was an uncomfortable post to write actually. I don't think one should ever have to "suck it up". I have found that TNVC very easy to work with. I didn't have any issues with mine but I did notice that if you turn the brightness beyond what is needed, you might see some unevenness in image. I tweaked everything for the images above. But like I said, the actual images are much nicer than in the photos. I also forgot to focus the objective. ;) I'm very seriously considering buying another. One that is built for photography purposes and have attachments to my Canon DSLR. This could get real expensive because I'd also like to get a thermal unit. |

Many folks really have to do some soul searching before dropping $3K + on a PVS14. When it arrives you want perfection for that hard earned cash. I was of a similar mindset when I bought NV (Optics Planet Pinnacle unit). It is a clean tube but has a flake of paint and a small piece of lint in view. The bottom line is this, get over it and use the dang thing. Before long you'll be having so much fun the small defects won't matter (and they really don't). |
