Just trying to get an idea what I can expect using this setup. About to drop  coin on one and trying to get an idea what things look like thru them especially using an aimpoint.

You won't be able to use an optic with 7's.

They turn you into a cyclops and you'll never actually get a good sight picture. Not to mention any kind of stable shooting position.

Get an IR laser, and don't worry about using optics.

I think what he meant was it would be difficult to position your face behind the optic with that setup.

You would have better luck with a single PVS14, but its still not optimal or easy to pull off. You can always mount your PVS14 on the rifle if your so inclined to operate with your RDS.

When this topic came up in the past, somebody mentioned using 45 degree mounts to get the scope closer to the centerline of the pvs-7. I never tried it.

I think you would sacrifice so much in terms of FOV, that that it wouldn't be worth using this type of setup unless you were on a benchrest or completely stationary and even then I would still want the IR laser, since you're only shooting at red dot distances anyhow.

It can be done with 5.56 without too much effort, just extend your buttstock and put the buttstock over your sternum instead of your shoulder pocket.

IMO it's honestly easier than trying to line up a PVS14.

What you really want to do though is get a laser on that rifle, easy peasy.

OP, below is a youtube video link (not mine) of an aimpoint in front of a pvs-14 if you are just wondering what it will be like with night vision.

But like the others have said, using the PVS-7 with weapon-mounted optics isn't very feasible.

IR lasers from Crimson Trace and LaserMax can be had for less than $200 and will be a much better set up.

I've seen a rifle where the user had lost their right eye - it was a 10.3" M4A1, and the KAC RIS had been modified so that it fit rotated 45 degrees, and it had an EOTech mounted at the 10:30 position, and the AN/PEQ-2 mounted at the 1:30 position.

Probably not necessary today with the 45 degree mounts and modular rails, but I bet it would probably allow you to look through a NV compatible RDS with a PVS-7.

It'd be an odd solution.  But I reckon it'd work.

Unless you put the rifle in the center of your chest (serious).

Here's the thing with those: they are razor sharp, but have no depth of field unless you tinker with them.

By that, I mean if you focus so you can see the weaponsight, everything beyond is gonna be blurry like you took your contacts out.

If you focus out to infinity..... hm. I don't think you can see the dot.

I have a cursed, dangerous and highly unadvised eeyore tech with the NV setting. Guess I could try and see (lol) tonight

Ive had both pvs7/14. Its really not worth trying to use an optic. Youll be slow to sight and fidget tryin to get a good position. I look at my NV reticle with the nvgs and it was laughable focusing to see the reticle then focusing back out to target......useless.

Get a laser.....point and shoot

Lasermax uni-ir and crimson trace ir rail master. I picked up a uni IR used for $125 on the EE a few weeks back. Next best option is to find a used otal-c. They can be had for $300ish. Much more robust than the other 2 and have a QD mount.
