Hello all I have a question for all the gurus here as I am no expert by any means. I just recently added another pvs 14 to my collection it has an mx11769 pinnacle tube and everything "seems" to be in good working except when I tinker with the gain.
In pitch black, with the daylight filter cap on and my hand covering the pinhole, the gain turned up to max, I begin to see edge glow and excessive scintillation. I turn the gain down it goes away. Now at night, regular starlight conditions when I turn the gain all the way up the image gets extremely bright and very noisy. If I adjust the gain down the image looks freakin' awesome, it is actually a pretty darn good lookin' tube all things considering. In comparison to my other 14's one a NE the other a Tnvc, the min and max gain settings aren't even close. I can't come close to adjusting the gain on both units as high as the unit in question. Nor can I turn the gain down as low as I can on the Ne and Tnvc. When I bridge the unit in question with either the tnvc or night enforcer gain at max, I find that I actually have to turn down unit in question about halfway to match the max gain setting of the other units. I am beginning to wonder if it is a gain pot issue, improperly adjusted or something, rather than an issue with the tube itself. It is an unbranded pvs 14 I acquired for a really, really, really, good price due to this issue. The tube itself other than this issue is blemish free, artifact free just impecable, I hate to say it but the resolution and snr seems to definitley surpass the tube on one of my other units and easily rivals the other, easily. Any thoughts, corrections, are graciously welcome, I am hoping it may be something I can possibly have corrected. If it helps it is an mx11769 tube. Thanks again in advance. |
