| Is there anywhere else you guys go to buy used NV other than the EE? I know Ebay, but sorting through piles of Pulsar digital and Call of Duty goggles is mind numbing. I guess I'm wondering if there is a NV forum analogous to Arfcom and AR15s, or Candle Power and flashlights, or is the price to play just too high for that kind of community to exist? |

Nothing that I've seen. What makes the EE great is that it's heavily policed, by both MODs and Users. There is no tolerance for dipshits that like to play games with OPM, and I've never had a bad deal on the EE.
eBay is OK, but you need to know what you're looking at and be willing to endure a low S/N ratio. |
| You may also find other online classified listing on sites like craigslist, there is one site around here that has online classified ads by the name of bookoo that has one somewhat regular seller that seems to list 2 or 3 different units every month or so. (I think he repairs and resells) |

With little knowledge stick to EE. You have a bigger safety net in place to protect the uninformed folks. Ebay is for big boys and you need your A game. I score my best deals on eBay but I know what I am doing and what to look for. This takes time, money and experience. I would go with EE to get your feet wet and venture into the lions pit (ebay) when you learn more. |

If you have to buy used I haven't seen a better place than the EE. I have bought 3 units over the years. It seems like most of the sellers are looking to sell for good reasons like upgrading Instead of trying to screw someone for fast cash. Heck one of the ee pvs7s I got dirt cheap as a loaner wouldn't focus right. I got on here asking for advice on how it fix it and the seller read the post contacted me wanting to refund my money. Nobody from ebay is going to contact you. No thanks, another member here fixed it for me cheap and I got exactly what I paid for.
It is still best to buy new if you know exactly what you want, some great dealers support this forum. |

Agree but I dont, and would rather experiment with used where, if my experience with quality optics holds true, there is very little risk in loss of value at resale. The only thing I know I want is a WASP, and who knows when that will be available. |

My best advice on this matter would be to "ask around"
It could be unwise to think you know better; maybe if you're swimming in money then it doesn't matter; but regardless... I don't swim in money and I've been there, and almost done that... luckily for me I was shown the warning signs before making a very expensive mistake... So... I would just ask people around; learn and then decide. After my first experience I've learnt to avoid eBay for the expensive stuff, no need to; and especially so if you are not sure what you're doing... Following this simple advice is how I got my first Gen3 setup: brand spanking new housing w/ a pristine condition L3 Autogated Omni VI tube ... before this, I never thought I would own a Gen3, ever... Oh, and one nice side effect of all this was that I got to know people too... G. |

It's the Equipment Exchange, the orange button near the top right, bottom right/middle of your screen will take you there. You can scroll down to "Night Vision" and see what the guys are selling. Some good deals show up all the time.
And like gman said, ask around, we like to tease and give smart ass comments sometimes, but in private a lot of the guys here are really nice, and helpful. |
