Are the PVS 31 goggles available for civilian purchase?   If they are what are some of the prices you have seen?

No, and I've been looking diligently -- i.e. they don't even exist in the world of gray ether yet.

We have a set, very good units for what they do.  Internal restrictions from L3 due to supply with Mil SOCOM contracts. I do feel once supply gets caught up, these will open sales.

Found a guy selling some high end NV gear on craigslist and just in passing asked if he had one.  Answered in a few days saying he found one from a 3rd party.  Yeah I don't need the man in my life.

Not yet, L3 holds all that power in determining price. Sometimes they take a different pricing approach on the commercial side of the house.

My PVS-15's took a dive and I got a chance to use some 31's for a few weeks. Amazing picture quality and stupid light, no need for a counterweight.

Best NODs I've used, bar none.

Really? I used a set and wan't all that impressed by them. I could have bought them for $14k new (cleared). Aside from the weight, I like the PVS-15 better myself. Something about that 16mm tube that just didn't blow me away.

The weight, or lack thereof, was impressive, as was the overall size. The IQ was fine, but my eyes just seem to work better with the 15's.

I have something special coming soon -- perhaps one-of-a-kind, factory-built. I'm a guinea pig chock-full of awesome!

I felt like there was a pretty big difference, but then again our 15's get beat to shit. I've had 3 go down in a year. The 31's seem to be holding up pretty well but they haven't been fielded as long, so we'll see. I might just be biased because it doesn't feel like a cinderblock attached to my helmet

Are you guys still using the AVS-6's at all? How did those hold up to ground use?

We have a drawer full of them but honestly the only time they get used is when we have a new  guy that needs NODS and all the remaining 15's are off getting repaired. They switch back out to 15's when they come back from repair. I don't know of anyone that uses 6's for more than a few weeks at a time.

Why so? What's the biggest reason for opting for 15 instead of 6?

They break easily and loose focus randomly.

I would absolutely agree with the first. The second sounds like either a loose tube issue, or a lens cell that needs replacing.

I should have a * there. These are not new 6's. These are 6's that have been abused for YEARS, so chances are, you are correct. Some guys still chose them over 15's because of the weight...bad choice for what they were being used for. They were later relegated to being replacements.

I wasn't disagreeing, as I'm sure everyone knows the 6/9's were built for aviation environments, not ground use, and even in aviation use they need TLC to work as they should.

I can't find any mention of the tube size used in these except that they accept 10160 type tubes. Does that mean 18mm or are 16mm tubes 10160 too? Where did you Horta find the reference to the tube size?

Read that too, 16mm pvs31's would be STUPID light, they could probably get them down to a single pound up front.
