So, I've been the proud owner of a Second Gen PVS-4 for the last couple of years. I like it, and it seems to be as they say 'built like a tank'. Being a Second Gen, it doesn't match my Third Gen stuff though, and I really didn't expect it to.
Now, I came across what seems to be a great deal on an upgraded PVS-4 model that has a Gen Three tube installed. My question is, can I expect to see as dramatic a difference as I think I will? I won't receive it until next Wednesday, and like most, the anticipation is a killer! Any thoughts on what the difference should be like, would be appreciated! |

First, have a Gen 3 and love it. BUT, don't compare it to a modern Gen 3 tube. The upgrade is worthwhile but not the huge upgrade you might expect. You have to remember, these tubes have a S/N of about 21 and lpm of 45. Now since this is a 25mm tube, the apparent resolution is 64 lpm. The PS is 1800. ( many thanks to CJ7Hawk for all this info ).
The manual gain is great. All in All, the performance is on par with my XD-4. So, great scope, love it. Built like a tank, and a definite improvement over Gen 2. I was very pleased. I hope you are too. |
