What on God's green earth are these?

Supposedly OMNI VII repots, is there anyway to know for certain.

Hey guys, any help with the following: it is a PVS15 GP with an MX10160WG tube but with L3 CAGE code. I know these were made before any Elbit/Harris/ITT/L3 merger, so what would a legacy L3 MX10160 be? Thank you.

Purchased on Ebay for a decent price (not sure if we can talk about $$ on here, I'm new)
My guess is that its a Gen3 autogated thin film
Gain knob is functional and has a very faint whine
Has zero blemishes in zone 1 and 2, only a couple at the very edge of zone 3 that are so small I did not notice for the first couple weeks of owning
Has a small spot right in the center that's just a little brighter than the rest of the tube.

Any input is much appreciated

Not an expert, bit have good GoogleFu.

https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/nv-tubes.81776/

Since the Delta series is not autogated, and yours appears to be autogated, I would expect it to be part of their Defender series. My guess is the DF stands for Defender.  If so, it appears that it was intended to be a mil (possibly Omni 8) tube that didn't meet the specifications.

Can't help you then.

Closest I saw was a Harris (who owned Exelis for a while) page showing some information on their F9800 series tubes (F9815 looks to be part of their series).

It showed the:

F9800M16G as 1600 FOM autogated.

F9800M18G as 1800 FOM autogated.

So if it was a G instead of a C then I would assume a 1400 FOM autogated.

From what I’ve found they’re milspec F9800YG tubes, so the minimum specs would be
64 resolution
25 snr
1800 sensitivity
2.5 max ebi
1.0 max halo
40000-70000 gain

Those are just the minimums, and they probably exceed them by quite a bit. They’re nice tubes.

Thank you! They are beautiful tubes. I used them for about an hour tonight and they looked amazing.I really like my unfilmed WP pvs-14, but these things are just as fun. There's something about the green film nostalgia.

I'm sorry to bring up an old post, but did you ever figure out the manufacturer for that tube? I have two gen 2+ pvs-14's, each from different retailers that have the exact same S/N format. they're both 11769 format tubes.

Going through this thread (wow! what a lot of expertise and info you guys have) trying to nail down a couple of tubes. These are mounted in a set of ANVIS 9's my buddy is trying to get me to buy from him. I'd appreciate a second (or third) opinion on my deductions in red below.

Left Tube
MX-10160A/AVS-6
CAGE 13567 (likely ITT/Harris?)
Contr. F09603-98-C-0295 (1998?)
ID No. 80063-A3256389 (seems OMNI IV or V? Thin filmed and not autogated?)
Warranty Exp. 09/01
CAD 0038

Right Tube
MX-10160A/AVS-6
MFR 13567
Contr. 0AA807-96C-1209 (1996?)
ID No. 54490-A3256389
CAD 9907

It looks like these tubes were made at least a couple years apart and there's a possibility it was some sort of armorer level refit on one side at some point in their life? My main concern is what the tubes are worth, how much life they may have left, and of course if they were somehow rebuilt in a garage somewhere before they came into my buddy's possession (not collimated, purged, etc.).

Yeah, yeah I know the whole "my buddy" schtick... not the case here. He wants $5k for the goggles but I'm tempted keep saving for something a little newer.

The top one was made the 38th week of 2000, and the bottom was made the seventh week of 1999. ITT filmed non gated tubes. Probably very nice tubes. The late nineties/ early 2000s ITT tubes I’ve had all had excellent cosmetics, and good performers.

Thanks! They look pretty good but quite a bit of noise in lower ambient conditions compared with a newer (2018 mfg) 2200+ FOM PVS14. They also seem dimmer compared with the PVS. Is this an indication of high usage/hours and maybe tubes aren’t as good anymore?

The specifications of that tube type are posted a few posts above for another set of tubes.

Also ITT broke off Exelis in 2011 and from 2011-2013 it was known as ITT/Exelis.

Also Harris bought Exelis put in 2015 and then it was sold again to Elbit in 2019.

So my guess would be between 2011 and 2015, unless Harris kept the Exelis name, then it might have been as late as 2019

Got an interesting tube, hopefully someone might have some idea as to what it is?

It's some kind of MX-11769 type.

It's an Exelis tube, it reads:

EXELIS NV505A-X7C
S/N 1621 91 360
1167680

The trim pots are in a recess just like the pigtail connection which is unusual, and the Fixed pattern Noise, the hexagonal honeycomb pattern is much smaller, you could fit two or three of the hexagons in this tube in one hexagon in a typical tube.

Any help would be appreciated.

If anyone can help identifying this tube I would greatly appreciate it. What I do know it's ITT, manual gain, made 3rd week of 2010. Not sure if it's OMNI VII or VIII, thin filmed or not. I think it’s OMNI VII due to the contract number. I did try google. Is it thin filmed,  pinnacle, standard filmed etc ??? That's the best I can come up with.
Thanks guys

Your tube appears to be a docked MX-11769 tube. I have the same series tubes in my RNVGs. I bought them from tlandoe07, he removed the pigtail and soldered in a resistor. He told me they were Omni-VIII equivalent specs. They are damn good tubes and seem to outperform Omni-VII just based on my observations.

That is an ITT F9800SELA, it`s a thin-film tube with a non-gated power supply. they were very good tubes for the time, I had one that was 72lpmm - 29.8 S/N - 2340 PCR. Vic sold a lot of them back then.

Contract: DAAB07-98-C-J418

Going by the spreadsheet here, it seems like it should be at least Omni V (based on contract) but the date could push it to VI.

Howdy!

I have a tube which is proving really difficult to find information on.

Picture 1: https://i.imgur.com/fck5ol9.jpg

Picture 2: https://i.imgur.com/SzubHJl.jpg

Info on the tube is:

S/N: 1087059

Two part numbers (?): 379782 / 271165

Mystery value: 0.160 (I was wondering if this is a measurement, relating to the recession of the output window face - perhaps for focusing reasons, telling a tech what shim to use etc.)

"P" and "R", alongside "++"

It's a Gen3 tube, pulled out of an Envis M703E.

From my research that suggests it should be a Harris/Excelis F9800P, but I'm not so sure. A friend pointed out that the recessed side of the tube, at the output window, tends to be an L3/Litton design hallmark and occasionally ITT. The outer boot doesn't have any lines running around it like I've seen on Harris tubes. I'm not sure though, any additional context would be appreciated!

Info on the tube is:

S/N: 1087059

Two part numbers (?): 379782 / 271165

Mystery value: 0.160 (I was wondering if this is a measurement, relating to the recession of the output window face - perhaps for focusing reasons, telling a tech what shim to use etc.)

"P" and "R", alongside "++"

It's a Gen3 tube, pulled out of an Envis M703E.

Can't tell you more than what you already know. It looks to me as if the tube has been repotted. Most Envis tubes are failed aviation tubes due to blemishes. I have several of those tubes and not one looks even close to yours. If it whines when powered it is autogated. Most I can tell you. Certainly looks like someone has been working on that tube. If it works well just enjoy it.

Thank you! I appreciate the reply. A friend suggested it was repotted too, which does make sense.

In terms of blemishes, this definitely has them - there's a soft, very very faint honeycomb blemsh (not FPN as such) over the full image, and some interesting line-shaped blems on the right side of the tube. It doesn't feel like the blemishes were post-production, but I don't know enough to say that for sure.

Here's an image: https://i.ibb.co/6XW51gV/IMG20230118025657.jpg

You can see the vague honeycomb pattern I was talking about in the sky. In any case, I'm not hoping for any further information, just sharing the image because tubes are cool :)

Thank you again for your thoughts.
