Just committed to one of these today. Only thermal experience is through my fire department (only finding hot spots with a camera)
Any do's and dont's with the flir? Looking forward to having this. It will compliment NVG's very well |

While it seems most people are very happy with their PS24, I am a dissenter. I get that it's "only" $2.000 -- but my first experience with thermal was a slightly high-end Insight MTM unit. I figured that was what lower-end thermal was, until I got a PS24. The poor resolution, poor screen, ridiculous refresh, etc all were a real let-down -- again, for me. I sold it immediately.
YMMV, and I doubt that's the feedback you were looking for, but that's my PS24 experience in a nutshell. I'm sure I would have been much happier with an LS32 or better, but the PS24 was a huge disappointment. |

I owned a PS24 and mostly liked it. It was a great entry level unit. If you have used higher end stuff you may not be excited. My first thermal came out of a Caddy I played with for awhile. I then got a PS24.
I got bored with the 24 fairly quick and wanted to step up. That is not the fault of the PS24 though as it is a low priced entry level unit. My eye cup kept falling off and I didn't like that at all. I was told that was fixed on later models. I would have liked a bigger and better screen. All in all I was happy with it for what I paid. |

I haven't owned a PS 24 but have a PS-32 , a LS-64, and OTS-X. I've also used my hunting buddies FLIR M-24 640x480 model and his old FLIR H-307. I found the PS-32 would "detect" 90% plus of the critters that the LS-64 and M-24 does. Sure the LS-64 and M-24 with their 640 cores produce a better image with more detail, but for detection the PS32 works great for half the cost. I say buy the best you can afford and be thankfull you have a thermal of some sort as Ps24 will out perform not have any thermal for viewing anyway of the week :)
You shouldn't have any issue spotting people or critters within 300-400 yards of you with the PS24. |
| If your goal is to detect things, it is great and Instalert is a must have. If you are wanting to see good resolution past 20 yards, then you will be dissapointed. You can still make out trees and overall surroundings pretty well, but an animal at 100 yards is just a blob. I've owned a PS24, PS32, LS64, and M18 640. The PS24 has never let me down for detection and is a great deal for the price you paid. I use it on every hunt. Also realize that it will take a fair amount of practice in the field before you really get efficient in spotting smaller animals at distance. |
