Im looking at buying a NVG monocular, the PVS-14. I ran ANVIS style Aviators for quite a few hours on my flight helmet but I dont have a clue when it comes to mounting NVGs to an ACH. What is your preferred mount? My main concern is removing any wobble from the mountng system even though theres only one hole drilled on my ACH. And of course lightweight, I friggin hate pressure points. As long as its under $1,000 and quality made ill be happy. Thanks in advance.

do you already have a shroud on the helmet?
As long as you have a quality shroud, and mount you shouldnt have any problem. The shroud will require drilling into the helmet though. (im not a fan of the ratchet style stuff) as for mounts the INVG seems to be pretty popular with good reviews (ive never handled one in person) I think TheHorta and Skypup use them, they should be along shortly to comment. If it were me I would either go with the INVG or wilcox G11 but thats just me. |

With a budget of $1k, pretty much all of the options are open.
If you don't want to drill any more holes, and don't want to be locked in to Norotos' proprietary interface, the Norotos Universal Shroud or Wilcox Hybrid Shroud would be good ones to consider. With either of those, you would also have the option to drill more holes later on or use on a different helmet if you were to so decide. After that, things get pretty subjective as far as personal preference. The controls for the several most common mounts operate with significant differences from an ergonomics perspective.
A bit more info about you intended uses would be helpful in steering you towards what might be some of the better options to consider. Also, since you mention pressure points, the best bang for your buck would be a suspension upgrade if you have not already done so. Both comfort and stability can be vastly improved versus the USGI pads. OpsCore and Team Wendy offer a variety of choices. |
| I picked up an ACH at a pawn shoppe and did the gun fighter cut to the ear flaps and drilled three holes for a Wilcox shroud. I had a standard rhino mount lying around and it works perfectly with my 2AA AB Night vision unit. I also just got a Crye night cap and put the same shroud on it, an excellent non-hemlet option. |

Probably the best option for the majority of users who don't actually need a ballistic helmet. |

For a single NOD / PVS, the INVG is the absolute-best mount on the planet. If you believe you might run dual tubes in the future and want to only buy your mount once, get the Wilcox G24. Get the Norotos Dual Dovetail Adapter regardless of which mount you get.
Skip the ballistic helmet unless your targets are actually shooting back. No need to carry all that weight for any reason aside from actual ballistic protection. |

I find the on/off/reset and gain adjustment to be less accessible when using a dual dovetail in front of the left eye. The INVG to DD release is also somewhat difficult to access when the ER is shortened up. What is your experience in these regards? |

I rarely use gain, so that could be the case if you make frequent use of the knob. I don't recall having any issues myself, but I really love the lateral slide adjustment that removes all contact between the PVS and the bridge of my nose. I don't know why, but I'm really sensitive to the contact, and when I started using the NDA it was almost a revelation. |

Even the standard issue "rhino" (single hole) mounts worked OK...if you happen to have one of those laying around. I just switched over to the Norotos Universal Shroud, I dunno if its the lockup between the shroud and rhino mount arm but the PVS14 is a lot more stable under movement, more so than it was with the regular rhino mount and a down range gear bungee stabilizing the PVS14. |

I have no trouble with the gain but you are correct about the power switch and the release. For me those are really the only two weaknesses of the system. Those aren't deal breakers though and I love the side stow away feature and low overall profile as well as the solid lockup. As for the ACH I'm in love with the Team Wendy epic air liner and cam fit system. The whole thing IS too heavy especially with a counter weight. A bump helmet would be a nice alternative for casual use. I like the Wilcox hybrid shroud. |
