I know many of you are frustrated with the lens cap flopping around tied to the neck cord. I like the neck cord for use as a neck cord but it bothers me to no end to have it attached to my lens cap. Clasky had a Velcro solution that works well but Kyle at TNVC turned me on to something else. It was mainly used for attaching battery caps when they assembled new housings that required hydro dipping. With the the tan and multicam dipping the battery cap wire had to be cut and removed so obviously they had to be reinstalled to build the scope.

I just modified the process to attach my lens cap so it is out of the way yet firmly attached. It does not flop around and is not attached to the neck cord in any way. Simple items that can be purchased at any fishing supply store. I know it is a small deal but I really like the way it turns out and thought I would share. You simply cut the line to length and crimp it with the special tool. All easily bought at any fishing supply shop. My lens cap is always right with my scope and not attached to the neck cord. Makes for a nice sharp looking setup. Small change but I thought you guys might like the idea. Even though it was my thoughts please thank Kyle at TNVC as it was his initial plan that I just modified to suit my needs. The pics speak for themselves.

I do the exact same thing just with 550 cord, but that looks nice.  Try it with Velcro on the cap face, and put some on the body. no cap flop.

Looks good, OP- very professional/factory-looking! Thanks for sharing. It is little tips and tricks like this, Skypup's (I think) reccomendation of the screw in IR pass filters, and many others that help newer NV guys have that much better of a NV experience! I like this place.

I use an IR filter on mine, so the lens cap no longer fits. So I took the lens cap off completely and don't even use it any more. The filter also protects your tube from visible light damage. When I stow my 14 away in the safe, then I remove the filter and put the cap on. YMMV

That's weird. I use a LIF and the cap and 3x milspec magnifier are unaffected. They work the same whether the LIF is installed or not.

I didn't say LIF, and do not use an LIF, which is useless unless you are in a combat zone with powerful targeting lasers around. I use a XNite 71530 30mm 715nm  IR filter that blocks visible light below 715 nm, and also serves to protect the objective from scratches. You can turn the NOD on in daytime with this filter and it won't hurt it. Especially useful for keeping fat fingered friends from fubaring your NOD by turning it on behind an EOTech in day mode.

I don't use a LIF and use an Opteka 30mm 720nm IR filter and some other IR filter with the same specs ($10 from HK on eBay because I couldn't find another Opteka).  My lens caps fit on both of them.  On your IR filter, does the USGI 3x attach to the IR filter?

To OP- Thank you!  I finally know what those funky pliers are for!  Been bugging me for years.

The diameter of the filter is less than the 14 objective, so the cap "fits" but doesn't stay on very well with the filter installed. I have a 3x lens but rarely use it, and always just slip it on. Sorry for the hijack.
