When powering up is this a normal amount of time?

try to replace the batteries with NEW store bought batteries (not new, unopenned but stored ones) first, if the batteries are old. if the problem persist, it may be that you have some capacitors in the power supply that are begining to go bad. commonly, when capacitors start to fail, they do so in such a way that it takes some period of time for it to reform and start acting normally again, when power is applied. that's why it will initially take a while to power up the first time, after it had been off for a while, but, if powered up, then turned off, the subsequent power ups take less time. - capacitors work by storing an amount of charge. when they start failing, they may not be able to store the charge initially, after being unpowered for a period of time. but, when powered up, as electricity flows through it, it can reform itself and start storing the charge again. if this is a critical use device or under warrentee, you might want to get it serviced, else, you could countinue using it until it starts to take much longer to turn on, then have it service. there is no way to determine how quickly the capacitor will take to finally fail, if it is a bad capacitor. places to service it - check with tnvc, possibly ed wilcox? - guessing at the capacitor as the problem, from experience with other powered electronic items, but, it could also be due to the batteries. |

thanks for the reply, its not really a critical use device and once its on it works pretty good but i was just curious if this is normal and if its not, will it get worse? Ill likely just keep using it until it takes forever to turn on or doesnt turn on then have it worked on. I have a D740 that has a little delay also. maybe ill try new batteries though, thats a good idea.

Looks normal to me. I have a tube or two that takes longer than that. Weak batteries can always be an issue but some power supplies are a bit slower than others. Other issues like voltage bleed off come into play but this is usually a problem in poorly repotted tubes.
In your case I don't see anything abnormal. |
| I agree it does not seem too abnormal of a start up time. Never underestimate new batteries though, about a month ago on my pvs14, i used it, turned it off, then went to turn it on and nothing. so i turn it back off and then on and it works...so then im thinking what the heck is going on. so after a minute i turn it off, then back on and nothing again...i keep messing with it and intermittently it does not power up. then it hits me, i put new battery in it and problem solved...(big sigh of relief on my part as i was freaking out a little thinking i might have a big problem. |
