Has anyone compared a M952 Surefire light using the if filter to a torch on really dark night?   I using my Surefire now but it eats batterys and if Im going to buy a ir illuninator I want one thats got good range. .   thanks

It depends whether you're talking about an incandescent 952 with IR filter or a 952V. I don't have a Torch, but the difference between my incandescent 950 series and my 952V is dramatic.

Edit: re-read to see you said IR filter. IR LED is much more impressive, and you're not wasting energy sucking up white light into a filter. Also probably less fragile. One of my IR filter locking tabs broke, so it's now mostly useless.

Yeah, as the poster above said, IR leds are waaaaaaay brighter than running an IR filter on an incandescent bulb. The torch is exceptionally good among the other available IR illuminators.

Go with the Torch... I have the Torch Pro and the original one is smaller and has a tighter focus beam... It would be nice if they came out with one with the same housing (new model) in a smaller package with the quality of the original.
