Hey guys,

I think I've decided to make a purchase from TNVC and wanted your opinions:

I decided to go monocular for NV here

I don't want to mount it behind my LT660 mounted T-1 on the gun rail so am going with a helmet/mount unit here and here

The adviser at TNVC mentioned that having the mounted PVS-14 on the helmet is not conducive for a cheekweld looking into the T-1 easily so recommended this laser.  I'm going red as I only need it at night, so green's day advantage is not relevant.

Primary function is hoggin'.  Secondary is a system that works if things go South in our wonderful kountry.

Thoughts on the above set-up?

leave the 14 on your helmet and get a IR laser

Since you're getting a helmet and mount, the monocular is available as a No Headgear kit, and you can save a couple hundred bucks.

Which you can immediately spend on an illuminator of some kind

you might also want to get a counter weight

Which illuminator do you recommend?  Is there one ideal for dubbing as that and a white light?

Why not get something that's completely 'integrated' like this:

All-in-One

I'd prefer the LDI CQBL IR laser over the DBAL I2 due to the lower mounting height and the co-aligned visible and IR laser.  Same price and the CQBL is a hell of a lot easier to get sighted in.  Or, you could get a cheaper IR laser and wait on the CIVL from L3, whenever it comes out.  Since you're getting a helmet, I'd add a Streamlight Sidewinder Compact with IR led to your list.  Damn handy little light.

Is the side of the rail the only mount option for the CQBL?

You can mount it to any rail.  It doesn't have to be on the side.

I meant how does it do with a FSB at the 12 oclock position?

Reading is my friend:

"The dual laser emitters are in line with the bore, so it cannot be mounted at the 12 o’clock position on weapons with a front sight base. "
